School Based Health Centers

Oregon's 63 School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) offer a unique health care model in which comprehensive preventive physical, mental and preventive health services are provided to youth and adolescents in a school setting. Adolescents are often reported to have the lowest access to health care service use of any age group, and they are the least likely to seek care through traditional office-based settings.  Additionally, coordinating care for children is an ongoing challenge for working parents. Clackamas County primary care currently has two School Based Health Centers.  These clinics are vital for:

  • Caring for children who otherwise would not get care,
  • Helping students get back to the classroom faster,
  • Promoting health education, counseling, and wellness programs, targeted to adolescents,
  • Lessening the demand on parents to take time off to get children to wellness and urgent care needs, and
  • Improving student health.
