Adopt-A-Road Program
The Clackamas County Adopt-A-Road Program was adopted in 1993. The purpose of the Program is to provide citizens of Clackamas County with an opportunity to control litter, beautify and clean roadsides, and improve the appearance of the County road system. The Program is designed to encourage and facilitate involvement of volunteer groups in litter clean-up work, with each group working on a specific section of road.
As of late 2007, there are 285 active volunteer individuals and/or volunteer groups that have adopted 400 miles of roadway. Approximately 60 tons of trash is collected each year.
The County maintains more than 1,400 miles of roadway, so there are still many opportunities for additional adoptions. The County supports the free program with coordination, removal of bagged garbage and providing volunteers with grapplers, safety vests, plastic bags, roadside warning signs and sign stands.
