Clackamas Federal Credit Union donates $3,950 to SARCon (2:07) On April 28, 2009, Clackamas Federal Credit Union donated $3,950 to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office for its search-and-rescue efforts. The money will go toward sponsoring a breakfast at Northwest SARCon, our search-and-rescue training conference, which is set for Oct.16-19, 2009. A donation for Chaplain Evans (2:19) Sheriff's Office Chaplain Mark Evans was hospitalized in late April 2009 following a life-threatening infection contracted after his esophagus was perforated during a routine medical procedure. To help with Mark's bills as he recovers, Sheriff Craig Roberts presented a check on behalf of the Command Association and the Clackamas County Peace Officers Association (CCSPOA) in May 2009. Wally Johnston, Executive Chaplain of Public Safety Chaplaincy (www.publicsafetychaplaincy.org), accepts the check on Mark's behalf. |

Sheriff's Office honored for 'Wolf Pack' drunk-driving enforcement efforts (2:19) On Friday, April 17, 2009, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office was honored by the Oregon DUII Multi-Disciplinary Task Force as 2008's "County Agency of the Year." Sheriff Craig Roberts and Undersheriff Dave Kirby accepted the award at the Task Force training conference -- held at the Jantzen Beach Red Lion Inn. This is the first time the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office has won the award. CCSO received the honor for its work on the "Wolf Pack" DUII Saturation Patrols -- an enhanced enforcement effort targeting locations in the county with high reported numbers of DUII citations and crashes. The patrols began in June 2008 and concluded in August. In total, 11 agencies dedicated over 1,260 staff hours resulting in 282 traffic stops, 18 DUII arrests and 24 custodies. |

Happy Valley Community Policing Center 'open house' (1:08) An open house for Happy Valley's new "Community Policing Center" was held Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office provides police services to Happy Valley under a "contract city" arrangement; The replicated 1890 Rebstock house once served Happy Valley as its City Hall; with a new facade and interior restructuring, that building now houses the Community Policing Center -- where deputies complete reports, make call-backs and assist citizens. Happy Valley Mayor Rob Wheeler, Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts and Undersheriff Dave Kirby and Matt Ellington were present for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. |

Overland Park's 'National Night Out' 2009 (2:14) The Overland Park Coalition held its 8th-annual "National Night Out" event on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009 at Mill Park. This neighborhood event brought together the residents of Overland Park, government agencies (including the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office), and area businesses to say good-bye to crime and drugs during an evening of food, games, fun, prizes and music. Green Line grand opening (3:32) Sheriff Craig Roberts and other Clackamas County leaders appeared at the Saturday, Sept. 12 grand opening of TriMet?s fifth MAX line to be built -- the Green Line. The Green Line adds 8.3 miles of light rail between the Gateway Transit Center and Clackamas Town Center, and to 5th and 6th avenues in downtown Portland between Union Station and PSU. It?s the first light-rail extension into Clackamas County. Two days before, on Sept. 10, officials and police agency partners opened the South Precinct, a new police facility located at the southern terminus of the Green Line. The precinct is staffed by five dedicated officers from the Portland Police Bureau and the Clackamas County Sheriff?s Office; they'll patrol the Green Line south of the Gateway Transit Center. Transit police officers from Central Precinct will cover the Green Line when these dedicated law-enforcement personnel aren't on duty. |

AED donation press conference (2:32) During a Jan. 16, 2009 press conference, the Wilsonville Police Department received four Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) for use in their patrol vehicles. With each minute that goes by without defibrillation, a patient's chance of survival dwindles; AEDs allow trained personnel to render crucial aid to cardiac-arrest victims immediately. Sheriff's Office re-christens Marine Unit boats in honor of Shoop, Bowman, Coates (3:21) On Nov. 5, 2008, three in-service Sheriff's Office Marine Unit boats were re-christened and re-named in honor of three Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputies who served with distinction and honor: Sgt. Damon Coates, who was shot in the line of duty in January 2003, survived, and is recuperating with his family in West Linn; Deputy Bill Bowman, who was shot and killed during a training exercise in September 2000; and Deputy Jimmy Shoop, who was killed while responding to a call for service in his patrol car in November 1981. |

Kids make huge donation to 'Toys for Tots' (2:11) A group of Sunday-school students at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Gladstone decided to donate toys to the "Toys for Tots" program instead of giving gifts to each other. Working with the community, they gathered an astounding 150 toys in two weeks, which were picked up by The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office (accompanied by K9 dog Nero, a big hit with the kids).
